Glasgow pubs along Hope St
GLASGOW: HOPE STREET TRAIL
HOPE STREET trail - however only three sell real ale but two of these are great pubs and not to be missed.
From Glasgow Central walk out the main entrance and turn left and walk to the corner. Going down to the right and left is Hope St. This crawl is going wander up the right hand side of Hope St then down the opposite side back to the train station.
First right is Renfield Lane and down here are two bars Stereo and The Old Hairdressers. Continue up Hope St and turn down right at West George St to find The Society Room (Wetherspoons) . Return to hope St and walking up there is The Pot Still just a at stat of next block. Another few blocks up is Molly Malone's. Keep going up and reach The Theatre Royal at the top. Opposite here are MacConnell's and Ardnamurchan (formerly Trader Joe's). Go into MacConnell's on the corner. Now return to Ardnamurchan
Then walk down this side of Hope St to reach Rufus T Firefly. Next block down are Swing and NYC bar. Just as you reach the station building there is Ad Lib then and on the next corner is The Toby Jug. Around the corner is The Smokin’ Fox ( formerly The Hope).
plus
Cross over and there are some more bars that are actually on trail 6, keep going down to Park Lane and next door The Alpen Lodge, then Solid Rock Cafe and finally Denholms Bar. Cross over to walk back up to the station and there is Number 16 (formerlySotto and before that The Two Heided Man) and 26 Hope St and into the station.
A place this size is bound to have its own guides to illustrate the vast quantity, quality and styles of pubs.
CAMRA in Glasgow
Glasgow guide illustrating top ten pubs in different styles of drinking (and dining) eg Style pubs or Live Music pubs.
Timeout listing of best pubs - controversial
A good proportion of the pubs have real ale but many do not. The west coast still has a bit of a lager flavour - occasionally only lager. Real ale is not limited to trendy style pubs, and not even in many of these.
Glasgow does not have the tourist grouping of pubs as found in Edinburgh - they are mainly aimed at Glasgow folk.
Practically every pub offers food at lunch or all day
Stereo
Stereo has some stairs to go up before reaching the bar area. The counter is straight ahead while there is some seating for food to the left and, to the right is a longer area with more tables and chairs. Tables and chairs are deliberately really basic. There is a good range of bottled beer.

The Old Hairdressers ★
The Old Hairdressers is opposite Stereo and is also a music/art venue of the intimate type. There is a very small servery under the stairs which lead up to seating. To the left of the servery and beyond the stairs is a small room with basic table and chairs in subdued lighting.

PLACES TO VISIT WITH PUBTRAILS
The towns and villages highlighted on this web site have a wide variety of pubs and beers in them. All of the places are great to visit, whether for a day or longer, and most have tourist attractions for all of the family.
There is a large variety of pubs throughout the different towns shown below. Some you may wish never to visit again but even discovering these can be interesting. There are pubs that you would not take your wife into. While some you could not take your girlfriend into. A few you would not take either into. However, most of the pubs are very pleasant.

MacConnell’s
MacConnell’s is a two roomed traditional pub which has now been modernised , and has a downstairs function room. The “Lounge” entered from Hope St and “bar” entered from Cowcaddens Rd around the corner. However the only real difference is that what was the bar had a pool table. This “bar” area has some comfy booths up a few steps while the lounge area has many dining height tables and is where music acts perform. Lounge is banquette seating, dining size tables and chairs.. The décor of white bricks is common as is the lovely wooden counter at the serveries.

There is a long servery straight ahead opposite the Hope St door. The attractive modern decor and layout with high ceiling is let down down by a couple of barrel tables near entrance and the industrial look of the air conditioning. Banquette seating along windows to the right with tall tables in middle and against the wall. At far right a small room with labelled Snug.
