Walk towards the bridge across the river then walk up the lane directly opposite the bridge to The Golden Lion. There is now a short walk to The Royal Hotel. So, continue up the lane to Flowergate and walk up to turn first right along Cliff St. At the end a flight of stairs will take you up to East Terrace. Walk along this towards the Whale bone arch and The Royal Hotel is on your left. Further up the coast from here, walking past the Crescent and play area you reach The Met Lounge. Return towards The Royal and turn along the West Terrace just before the hotel. This turns into Belle Vue Terrace then Skinner St where The Granby is. Follow Skinner St down and The Resolution is on the corner. Around this corner and down (or out the side stairs) is The Elsinore. Down and across is The Little Angel. Turn right round The Little Angel and walk down Brunswick St and go first left at the church. Along here is the front of The George Hotel. Come out the rear of The George Hotel and cross over to Windsor Crescent. Walk up Windsor Terrace which is the road between the bus station and the railway station. When it splits take the right hand side which leads to North Rd (a steep hill). Take the third left - 1st is Esk Terrace, then Park Terrace then go down the road with no name(!). If you reach Elgin Terrace you have missed it. At the end of this 3rd road is First In Last Out.
Returning to the station inside the stration is a micropub called The Waiting Room and opposite the station is The Station Inn

Whitby pubs -
None to stay away from.
Lots have some kind of outside seating – some attractively to the front, while others may be benches in a backyard with white walls.
Most pubs do food.
Lots of pubs are dog friendly and not just because they have outside seating.
Service is always polite.
Background music tends to be from 1960 to the turn of the century.
Quite a few are actually small (or boutique) hotels.
There is not a lot of premium lager – lager lads have to make do with the well promoted brands
The Golden Lion ★
The Golden Lion is one of the smallest pubs in Whitby. The main entrance leads to a small room on the right and a relatively larger room further on at the end of the short corridor. There is a large variety of pubs throughout the different towns shown below. Some you may wish never to visit again but even discovering these can be interesting. There are pubs that you would not take your wife into. While some you could not take your girlfriend into. A few you would not take either into. However, most of the pubs are very pleasant.
