YORK
trail 2 - Among the middle lanes
York is a walled city in North Yorkshire. The city was founded by the Romans and has been an important part of British history ever since. The city became a major trading and religious centre. Eventually chocolate and railways became the major industries in York, though they have now declined. At present the biggest employers are in service industries.
York is easily reached by road or train and has many attractions for tourists. Cars can easily be parked for a week while attractions, shops, cafes restaurants and bars keep a visitor occupied.
Two rivers run through York, the Ouse and the Foss. This pub trail looks at pubs caught between the river Ouse and the city wall on the more substantial side which includes the Shambles and York Minster.

Walk down a little to turn right down Grape Lane.Down Grape Lane on the right is Thirteen Thirty One. Further on at the corner is the rear entrance to The Slug and Lettuce. Come out of the other entrance and turn right and walk around the corner to Little Stonegate to find Stonegate Yard and opposite it Bobo Lobo.
Addition - You could wander further along to Kennedys.
Returning to The Slug & Lettuce walk on and discover Oscars's on the right. Return again to the long Slug and Lettuce entrance and opposite it find a small alley called Finkle St. Walk down this alley and at the end come across Roman Bath and, almost, next door to it The Three Cranes. Cross over the square and go down Parliament St turning first right into Market St to find The Burns Hotel.
