Real Ale crawl
This takes you to 4 pubs from from one end of the town to the other. Starting at platform 3 you then walk up the High Street to The Four Mary's. The other two are at the far end - The Black Bitch and the west Port Hotel.
Linlithgow Cross.
The West Port Hotel and The Black Bitch Tavern are next door to one another. Stop at The West Port Hotel First. Then return to the town starting with The Black Bitch. Next then is back to The Lithgae Arms. Cross the road and walk on to reach The Swan Tavern. It is then a long walk back to Th' Auld Hole I' Th' Wa' just over the hill. Finally The Old Post Office is visted before returning to Platform 3. Careful planning should enable you to just miss a train and have to have another at Platform 3.
West Port Hotel is a hotel just after the end of the High Street. The right hand door is the reception door and takes you to a dining area. this is split in two with a raised area to the back.
The left hand door takes you to a lounge area with some table seating and a couple of couches in front of a fire. The two bars back onto one another - dining, pictured to the right and lounge pictured to the left.

The Black Bitch takes it's name from the story of the black greyhound taking food to it's marooned master. It is the oldest pub in Linlithgow. It has a separate bar and lounge. The lounge is from the right hand door and the bar the left. The lounge( pictured) has an old wooden bar and room with tables and chairs. The bar has a serv ing counter, tiled floor and warmer feel. TV only in the bar

Lithgae Arms is again a narrow pub with the (too large) bar taking up a corner of it. .Bin and overflowing cigarette bin outside door reduces it's attractiveness. Inside, the door leads to a meeting with a pool table and the bar is very basic and bright, and quiet.

The Swan Tavern is across the road from The Crown Arms and is a quiet as the Crown is busy. However, it has it's share of loyal locals enjoying the quietness. The bar is to the right and tables to the left leaving a good sized space for standing.

It does not matter if your glass is half full or half empty if you have plenty of glasses.
Th' Auld Hole I' Th' Wa' has two rooms to the front; bar to left and two lounge areas to the right. Plenty of time to look around while you wait and wait to be served. Very quiet early on but loud music makes it busier later on.

The Old Post Office , from the outside does not look as large as these conversions usually are. However, once inside it goes back a long way. Split into several distinct areas it attracts a wide range of customers. Plenty of room around the bar for standing in with seating areas at front, opposite the bar and to the back.
